Prihoda tailored air solution at Complexe aquatique, Laval, Quebec
From top-tier swimming competitions to diving events, the Complexe Aquatique de Laval is the ultimate spot for water lovers in Laval, Quebec – and our custom airflow solution ensures it’s as comfortable as it is impressive. This project is a perfect example of how our innovative air distribution can tackle even the most unique architectural challenges… This modern aquatic center, known for hosting major swimming and diving events, now features Prihoda fabric ducting – designed to bring both function and style to a challenging space.
Designing for a Unique Space
The design journey began in September 2021, with production starting in January 2023. The building’s unique round shape and pitched roof posed significant challenges for air distribution. The curvature of the building, coupled with the slope of the roof, made this particularly challenging, but we were determined to get it right. Our goal was to keep the ducting as high as possible, following the building’s curves while ensuring effective and comfortable airflow.
The solution involved 494 meters of fabric ducting with diameters ranging from C800 to C2000 and handling a total airflow of 413,847 m³/h under a pressure of 200 Pa. The choice of material, PMI YEO, was essential for keeping up with the high standards of the project.
Key Airflow Goals
The air distribution design was meticulously planned to meet four specific goals:
- Prevent Condensation and keep the pool deck dry, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.
- Direct chloramines towards the exhaust, while making sure no uncomfortable airflow hit the diving platforms 🚴.
- Provide cooling along the glass exterior and keep swimmers and spectators comfortable.
- Distribute airflow above spectators to maintain a pleasant atmosphere throughout the space.
Getting this right required several iterations, but it was worth it. Our team worked hand in hand with architects, engineers, and contractors to adapt to the building’s unique shape and slope, ensuring the solution fit seamlessly.
The Outcome
The end result is an efficient, high-performing air distribution system that not only enhances comfort but also blends into the building’s unique architecture. Despite the challenges, the customer is delighted with both the performance and the look of the fabric ducting, creating the ideal environment for athletes and visitors alike.
