Many thanks to Cosair for doing this special job for an indoor rock-climbing facility. The challenge was to find a better way to diffuse air from evaporative cooling units. These units are characterised by fans with high air flow and a low static pressure of less than 80 Pa. We replaced the plastic plenums, which are very popular in Australia, with something more professional and controllable in terms of air diffusion. Installation cost was reduced, and only one person is needed to fit the lantern. We chose an angle of 60° according to the installation height to reach the best airflow at the occupant level. The aim was to achieve about 0.5–1.0 m/s at floor level. Our customer received fully washable fabric ducting with tailor-made air distribution, low weight, and custom colour. The new fabric lantern also features low noise, unlike the original plastic plenums which generated significant noise as a result of air velocities through its grilles.
